Article Overview
To connect two H3C switches via optical modules, use compatible SFP/SFP+ transceivers, ensure proper fiber cabling, and configure ports according to IRF or standard link requirements.
Step 1: Select Compatible Optical Modules
H3C S5810 series switches support hot-plug SFP and SFP+ modules. For a 1G link, use SFP modules, and for 10G links, use SFP+ modules. Ensure the modules are H3C-certified or verified compatible to avoid link issues. Check the module type (SX, LX, or LR) based on fiber type (multi-mode or single-mode) and distance requirements .
Step 2: Connect Fiber Cables
- Use LC-LC fiber patch cables matching the transceiver type (single-mode or multi-mode).
- Ensure TX of one module connects to RX of the other (cross-connection). For duplex fiber, the orange/blue or green/blue strands must be correctly aligned.
- Avoid bending the fiber sharply to prevent signal loss.
Step 3: Configure Ports
- For standard Ethernet links, simply insert the modules and connect the fiber. The switch will auto-negotiate the link.
- For IRF stacking, H3C requires cross-connection of logical IRF ports: for example, SW-A port 1/0/53 connects to SW-B port 2/0/53. The IRF logical port must be configured as active, and the ports should remain shutdown during configuration and rebooted after completion .
- Use commands to verify module status:
display transceiver interface <interface>display interface <interface> briefThese commands show link status, module type, and DDM metrics such as optical power and temperature .
Step 4: Verify the Link
- Check that the port LED is green and the interface shows up/up status.
- Use
display interfaceto confirm transceiver health and optical signal levels. - If the link does not come up, verify module compatibility, fiber polarity, and port configuration.
Step 5: Optional Security and Binding
- For enterprise environments, consider MAC/IP/port binding to prevent unauthorized access. Commands like
am user-bind mac-address <MAC> interface <port>can restrict access to specific devices . By following these steps, you can establish a reliable optical connection between two H3C switches, whether for standard uplinks or IRF stacking. Proper module selection, fiber cabling, and port configuration are key to ensuring stable and high-performance links.
